When was the last time you used LinkedIn to job search? When it comes to prospecting messages for clients, LinkedIn is one of the most powerful tools you can use. But how do you get into the DMs of someone on LinkedIn without having them accept your connection?

LinkedIn has a hidden feature that can help you get more business. It’s called Linkedin open profile.  Here’s everything you need to know.

How LinkedIn Open Profile Message Developed

LinkedIn Open Profile Message is a new feature released in March 2019. It’s a way to send a message to a prospect without being connected, and it’s ideal for connecting with prospects in a non-intrusive way. Combined with videos on LinkedIn it could be a great way to get ahead of the game.

LinkedIn Open Profile Message is an effective way to build relationships with new prospects. It’s also easy to use, and you don’t need a LinkedIn Premium account to be able to send them.

LinkedIn Open Profile Message

This is where a person can send an unsolicited message to anyone on LinkedIn who has an open profile without having to be connected through mutual contacts first.

You don’t have to be friends with someone or even have them added to your email list before sending them a message like this either. It’s basically like sending an email cold out of the blue, except it’s even easier because they’ll see it right on their newsfeed page when they log into their account.

The History of LinkedIn

LinkedIn was founded in 2002 by Reid Hoffman and the former CEO of Google, Larry Page. The site connects professionals. The idea was so that they could share job opportunities.

After its inception, LinkedIn quickly became one of the largest professional networks on the Internet. Today, it has over half a billion members in 200 countries and territories worldwide.

LinkedIn was founded by a group of former PayPal employees who wanted to create an online network for people working in business-to-business sales and technology jobs. The founders thought that if they could help professionals stay connected through their contacts list, then they could provide better opportunities for those same professionals in their respective fields.

LinkedIn has had a major impact on the way that people connect both online and offline. While many people use LinkedIn for professional networking, it is also important to remember that connecting professionally can take place outside of this platform as well. If you are looking to expand your network, consider sending an email or making a phone call instead.

What Happens When You Send an Open Profile Message?

An open profile message is a LinkedIn message that is sent to a prospect or a connection who has their status as “open.”

When someone opens your message, you have the opportunity to follow up with them. When you first send the message, it will show up in their inbox as unread (you can tell it’s unread by looking at the white circle next to it).

After three days, if they still haven’t opened your link, they’ll mark it as read. If this happens and you want them to see your message again, just email them directly instead of sending another one through LinkedIn.

LinkedIn Open Profile Messages give you an opportunity for high-level engagement with prospects who are willing to talk with you now—and when used correctly—they’re an extremely powerful tool for salespeople looking for new business opportunities!

It’s also used by Gen-Z, making it a great place to scout fresh new talent out of college.

How to Send an Open Profile Message

Here are some key instructions on how to send an open profile message.

  • Log into your LinkedIn account
  • Go to the profile of the person you want to contact
  • Click on their name to see their open profile
  • Click on “View Profile” at the top-right corner of the screen
  •  Go directly to this page by entering their name in the search bar

Click on “Search People” from there, but it is best if you already know how someone spells their name before doing

Using the Message Iconclick

On the Message icon next to the profile photo (on mobile devices) or hover over the tab icon closest to where it says View Profile & hover over the Message icon until the dropdown menu shows up (on desktop computers).

Select Send Message option from the dropdown menu after hovering over the tab icon near where it says View Profile & hover over the Mail icon until the dropdown menu shows up next; then select Send Email option from the dropdown menu after hovering over the tab icon closest to it.

Then type your message into the text box at the bottom left-hand side of the page and hit the “Send” button on mobile devices or click Send button on desktop computer screens. The recipient will receive an email notification with a link to their LinkedIn profile.

They can reply directly to this email if they wish. This process works best when both of you are logged in to LinkedIn, as it will allow them to access their account through the notification. Otherwise, it may not be possible.

How to Make a LinkedIn Open Profile Template

The biggest thing to remember when writing a message is that you’re not going to get a response from every person you reach out to. It’s like sending an email; some people will respond, and some won’t.

If someone doesn’t respond, it’s not because they’re rude or mean; they just don’t want to work with you right now. But if someone does respond positively and asks for more information about your product or service, then congratulations! You’ve made a sale!

  • Use our template below to write a professional open profile message
  • Avoid sounding robotic by avoiding over-formality
  • Make sure your message isn’t too long (under three minutes reading time)

It’s important to remember that the best open profiles are honest and sincere. Don’t be afraid of sharing personal details about yourself or your business. People like knowing who they’re dealing with, so give them a glimpse into your world. Make sure your message isn’t too short (again, you should be able to read it in under three minutes).

When it comes to writing an open profile, your aim should be to write one that is professional but not impersonal. The best way to do this is by avoiding over-formality and including personal details about yourself or your business.

Remember: you’re trying to make a sale here, so don’t be afraid of sharing personal details about yourself or your business. People like knowing who they’re dealing with, so give them a glimpse into your world.

Reach Out to a Prospect Without Being Connected

You can use an open profile message on LinkedIn to reach out to a prospect without being connected. You can send an open profile message to someone who is not your connection. Reaching out effectively is how you rise above during a pandemic or financial crisis when times are hard.

This is different from sending an InMail or regular InMail because it does not require the recipient to be in your network or have you as a first-degree connection.

How It Works

You navigate your way to their page (or search for them) and click on their name at the top right of their profile page (see below).

This will take you into the messaging area where they will receive the message instantly and respond if they choose so, or ignore it if they don’t want contact with strangers asking for something (which often happens).

There are two key differences between this and an InMail message. You can send it to anyone on LinkedIn who has enabled their profile for open profile messages. Not every account is enabled this way, and you may not be able to find theirs if they don’t want strangers contacting them through the platform.

LinkedIn Open Profile Message

Unlike InMails, there is no limit to how many open messages you can send per month. So if you want to reach out to three people in a day and have a good reason for doing so, then go for it! Just remember that these messages are the same as regular LinkedIn messages—they will show up on your page or profile for anyone who sees it.

LinkedIn Open Profile Is a Great Messaging Solution

That’s all there is to it! LinkedIn open profile messages are a great way to connect with prospects who aren’t connected to you, and they can be used in various ways.

You can use them as a way to get someone’s attention, send them information about your company or product, or even ask them if they would like any help finding work.
